Laboratory Grading

Lab books do not need to be detailed long write-ups. They should however contain enough information for someone to repeat the work in them using only the lab book as a reference. When grading labs, the following elements are important in satisfying this requirement

(1) Introduction/Purpose
What are the goals of this lab?

(2) Procedure
What did you do to setup and do the lab.

(3) Data and plots
The data you collected and plots of said data. Is there anything you had to do special to get the data?

(4) Analysis/Discussion
Discussion of your data (odd trends,...), comparison of your data with theoretical expectations. Discussion of problems in the lab.

(5)Summary/Conclusions
What did you learn in the lab?

In addition to the above, we are also looking for your pre-lab work that has been signed, and answers to the various questions scattered throughout the lab.
